Dirt Wheels Magazine, a long-standing authority in the ATV and UTV industry, has officially announced an opening for an Associate Editor. According to Daryl Ecklund, the publication is looking for an individual who possesses both a deep passion for off-road culture and the technical aptitude to produce high-quality editorial content across multiple platforms.
The role is designed for those who want to be deeply involved in the industry, as it requires a mix of desk work and field testing. Successful candidates will be responsible for managing editorial calendars, writing articles, conducting interviews with manufacturers, and assisting with vehicle shootouts and gear reviews.
Role Requirements and Expectations
This is not a traditional office-only position. The Associate Editor will be expected to travel frequently to attend press launches, industry events, and various riding locations to capture photography and video content. Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite and experience with WordPress are highlighted as essential tools for day-to-day operations.
Key qualifications include:
- Proven writing and editing capabilities.
- Strong riding skills with real-world off-road experience.
- Technical knowledge of ATV/UTV mechanics.
- Ability to manage digital media assets and social content.
While not strictly required, the magazine notes that candidates with FAA Part 107 drone certification or mechanical wrenching experience will be given preference.

Location and Compensation
Dirt Wheels has specified that this position requires the candidate to be based in or willing to relocate to either Boise, Idaho, or Phoenix, Arizona. The role is on-site, emphasizing the need for proximity to the editorial team and testing grounds.
The publication offers a starting compensation of $40,000, with potential for increases based on the applicant's experience and skill set. The package also includes 401k and medical benefits. Interested applicants are encouraged to submit a resume, relevant writing samples, and a short introduction to the email address provided by the magazine.
