For off-road enthusiasts and overlanders, the balance between securing gear inside a truck bed and mounting equipment above it has long been a challenge. RealTruck has addressed this with the release of the BAKFlip MX4 TS, a hard folding tonneau cover that incorporates integrated T-slot side rails. By blending the security of the popular BAKFlip MX4 with modular mounting capabilities, this cover offers a dual-layer cargo solution.

According to RealTruck, the MX4 TS is engineered with an all-aluminum construction reinforced by high-density polymer cores. This structural upgrade results in a 22 percent increase in strength compared to the base MX4 model. The top is finished with a Multi-Shield matte black coating, which the manufacturer claims provides 11 times more surface durability, effectively resisting dents, scuffs, and UV-related fading.

The primary draw of the TS version is its versatility. The T-slot rails built directly into the frame allow users to attach crossbars, baskets, or rooftop tents without compromising the ability to fold the cover. This means owners can keep tools or recovery gear locked in the bed while simultaneously hauling larger items like kayaks or camping equipment up top. Despite this added functionality, the cover retains an ultra-low profile, sitting nearly flush with the truck bed rails to maintain a streamlined aesthetic.

Weather protection remains a priority for the BAK series. The MX4 TS utilizes an upgraded perimeter seal system and tight-fit clamps to prevent water and debris from entering the bed. A dual-action tailgate seal is included, allowing for full tailgate operation regardless of the cover's position. Any water that does manage to bypass the seals is managed by integrated drainage channels and tubes, a standard feature for this series.

Installation has also been refined. The company notes that the new click-in clamp design reduces installation time by approximately 12 percent compared to previous iterations. Once installed, the cover can be folded forward toward the cab and secured with heavy-duty prop rods. Rubber bumpers ensure that the folded cover does not damage the cab during transit. Each unit is engineered and assembled in Missouri and backed by a 5-year warranty, as reported by RealTruck.
